Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is getting ready to face down danger in Chicago Fire. While there’s going to be a break in the show’s normal scheduling, the promo for season 11, episode 9 suggests that the character is going to willfully take on a mission that could put her life at risk.
Kidd has already been put at risk once in the premiere episode, when a man nearly killed her during her honeymoon. Thankfully, Severide (Taylor Kinney) was on hand to stab the man and put an end to the struggle.
Did Stella Kidd die on Chicago Fire?
The synopsis for the upcoming episode reads as follows:
“Severide struggles with the cost of helping Det. Pryma with the Martucci case. Gallo campaigns for Herrmann to represent 51 at the National Firefighter’s Association’s Winter Conference. A familiar face makes a shocking return.”
While there’s nothing in the synopsis that hints at Kidd’s subplot, the promo for the episode tells a different story. We see Kidd come across an active emergency, and instead of waiting for backup, she decides to suit up and attempt to rescue a man from a grenade that failed to detonate.
It’s clear from Kidd’s expression that she’s nervous about the situation, but it pales in comparison to the fear that registers on Severide’s face when he arrives and finds out what she’s doing. It’s a heck of a teaser, and one that will no doubt have fans questioning the fate of Kidd in the weeks leading up to its airing.
Will Fire actually kill Kidd off? Unlikely. The character, along with her onscreen husband, has become one of the centerpieces of the show, and killing her off on the job would be eerily similar to the way that another character, Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), was written off.
We’re confident that she’s going to make it out of the mid-season finale in one piece, though we don’t know what injuries or damage she’ll incur along the way.
