Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has aired flashback scenes that revealed how Al Chapman was murdered last week.

Last week’s episodes finished off with the shocking revelation from Cain Dingle that his son Kyle was actually responsible for shooting Al Chapman during a tense showdown.

Monday’s episode picked up with Moira processing the news while visiting husband Cain behind bars. Moira admitted she’d noticed Kyle had not been alright ever since Cain was arrested and demanded to know what actually happened in that barn.

During conversations between Moira and Cain as well as Amy and Kyle, the episode flashed back to show the events leading up to Al being shot.

Kyle explained to Amy that he had followed his father Cain after noticing how angry he’d become following Faith’s funeral.

Cain explained to Moira that he’d brought a shotgun to the barn to scare Al, but he never intended to actually use the weapon.

While Moira demanded the truth about what had led up to the barn showdown, Cain stopped short of explaining that he’d found out about Chas and Al’s affair.

“I told him to back off but he wouldn’t… He said the only good Dingle is a dead Dingle,” Cain claimed.

Flashback scenes showed that Kyle had picked up the gun while the two men were fighting. Once Al made a move to get the gun, Kyle fired the weapon and a bullet struck down his father’s enemy.

“It was all in a flash,” Cain remembered.

Moira angrily told Cain that while Kyle may have pulled the trigger on the gun, the blood would still be on his hands because he’d brought the rifle to the barn.

Back in the village, Kyle broke down as he questioned Amy over whether the shooting made him a monster? Amy promised her son he had done the right thing by telling the truth as they shared a tearful hug.

Another flashback showed that Cain had sent Kyle out of the barn moments before Kerry showed up. Amy found out from Kyle that nobody besides Cain had seen him at the crime scene.

At the prison, Moira tried to convince Cain that they could get a good lawyer for Kyle and possibly secure a lighter sentence if he told the truth, yet Cain insisted he’d rather die in prison than put his son at risk.

“I’m warning you Moira now, don’t go against me on this,” Cain threatened.

Moira admitted this incident “felt final” and that it could be the end of their marriage, while Cain relented to the prospect that the relationship was over.

Cain begged Moira to move on with her life so he would not have to worry about her while he is in prison, likely for the rest of his life.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger as Moira got up to leave their meeting without promising Cain that she would keep his secret.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV, and streams on the ITV Hub.
