Hollyoaks has aired a new twist in Imran Maalik’s eating disorder storyline.

Galvanised by a positive review of The Dog in the newspaper, Imran (Ijaz Rana) thought he could go back to the restaurant, though his mum Misbah (Harvey Virdi) didn’t think it was a good idea.

“I can’t let you go back to work,” she said, adding: “I know you’re still ill, physically and mentally.”

“Maybe I’m not 100% right now, but I do need to keep pushing,” Imran hit back, explaining he just wanted to go back to normal and wouldn’t let Misbah stop him.

At the restaurant, Tony told Imran he didn’t need him for the day, which only managed to irritate the sous chef further.

Later on, Imran overheard his mum thanking Tony for agreeing to let Imran go and confronted her.

“I was just so worried about you, Imran. You wouldn’t listen to me, so I thought…” she offered.

“So you thought you’d go behind my back and ruin my whole future?” he sarcastically said.

“I’ve had enough about you trying to save me,” he continued, storming out.

After their argument, Misbah found Imran letting out his anger on a punching bag. The two had another unpleasant exchange, culminating in Imran raising his fist to Misbah, who was shocked and heartbroken to see him still struggling to control his anger.

“You promised you’d never hit me again,” she told her son, getting visibly emotional.

Disappointed in himself, Imran decided to get professional help.

“There’s never an excuse to hurt you. I hate myself for slipping back to that kid I used to be,” he told Misbah, admitting he was scared of what he could become.

“I think it’s time for me to go to the hospital,” he said.

However, the doctor told them that the inpatient clinic was at full capacity and Imran would have to wait several months.

Misbah insisted inpatient treatment would be the best option for her son, but the doctor explained Imran didn’t fit the admission criteria for urgent admission.

“You’re gonna wait until I’m nearly dead before you let me in?” Imran asked, with Misbah assuring she wouldn’t let that happen.

In the final scene, a desperate Misbah took things into her own hands, putting her job on the line to help her son. She used her credentials to move Imran up the waiting list, putting in a note stating he required urgent inpatient care. Will she be caught?
