Chicago Med has pulled out all the stops in season 8. Deaths, reunions, marriages, and sudden departures have littered the episodes we’ve gotten so far, and based on the exit plans of one Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), it looks like there’s plenty more to come.
The medical drama has arguably been more exciting as a result of all these storytelling devices. We genuinely aren’t sure what’s going to happen from episode to episode, so the desire to get to the next one as soon as possible is high.
Unfortunately, that desire will have to go unfulfilled this week. Chicago Med will not be airing a new episode on Wednesday, November 23.

This is nothing new for One Chicago fans. The franchise always takes off the week of Thanksgiving so that NBC can clear out its Wednesday night schedule for more holiday-themed programming. It makes sense, and is not uncommon, based on the programming changes that other networks are making.
In its place, NBC will be airing a countdown to the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade. Then in the 9 p.m. ET/PT time slot for two hours, we’re getting a rerun of last year’s SNL Thanksgiving special.
When will Chicago Med return with new episodes?
Unfortunately, there will be a substantial break before we get a new Chicago Med episode. The next one is scheduled to air on Wednesday, Dec. 7. This is a little later than we would like, as we’d all hoped to just have a one-week break for Thanksgiving.
Furthermore, the episode in question, “This Could Be the Start of Something New”, will be followed by an even longer break. It will function as the mid-season finale for season 8, which means there won’t be anymore Med stories until January 4, 2023.
There haven’t been too many details released regarding the episode’s plot, but the promo video focused on Marcel (Dominic Rains) and the anxiety he feels as he agrees to attempt a live-saving procedure.
